A tribute to one of the worlds greatest comedians. Born Between the Great Wars to a Couple of Clowns set the stage for Benny Hill’s life of Comedy and Tragedy. Both Hill’s father and grandfather were former circus clowns.
Christened Alfred Hawthorne Hill, he later changed his name to “Benny” in honour of his favourited comedian: Jack Benny. Benny Hill – loved by many and hated by others – would grow to become one of the most successful comedians of the twentieth century. Hill was the king of slapstick comedy and innuendo. In the latter part of the 1980s the social tides turned and the once beloved jokes were viewed as risqué and unacceptable. Benny Hill’s show was cancelled and he was never the same man again.
